What is a geotechnical engineering evaluation?

In a geotechnical engineering evaluation, the geotechnical engineer will use the data obtained in the subsurface exploration to make specific recommendations about a project by applying the principles of geotechnical engineering.  Typical recommendations in a geotechnical engineering evaluation include site work recommendations including compaction, foundation recommendations, pavement recommendations, stormwater pond recommendations and earth structure recommendations including retaining walls and dams.
