Who We Are

We really like what we do. We explore, we test, we solve, and we work with amazing people on amazing projects.

About

Larry M. Jacobs & Associates, Inc. (LMJ) is a local small business that specializes in geotechnical engineering, special inspections, materials testing, and drilling services. We are proud to be the longest-standing geotechnical firm in our area and a trusted partner on more than 10,000 projects within our community.

Our Mission

Our focus has always been on delivering excellence and innovation where it matters most.

By concentrating our operations within our local area, we’ve built a team uniquely experienced to understand and support every phase of a project.

Our Story

Since its founding in 1976 by Larry M. Jacobs, PE, our company traces its roots back to a small office on Palafox Street in downtown Pensacola, Florida. Over the years, LMJ earned a reputation as the top choice for geotechnical engineering and materials testing.

Larry’s journey began at the University of Illinois, where he initially pursued aerospace engineering. Finding the math a little too impractical, Larry shifted to civil engineering with a focus on soil mechanics and studied under Dr. Ralf Peck, a world leader in geotechnical engineering. After college, Larry joined the United States Navy and served in Vietnam and then at Pensacola Naval Air Station, where he worked in the ROICC office.

Larry’s son, Keith Jacobs, began working at LMJ in 1995, after school in the office and lab. During school breaks, Keith worked in the field with the drillers, gaining valuable hands-on experience. Keith graduated from UCF in 2002 with a degree in civil engineering and returned home to LMJ as a geotechnical engineer. Over the next decades, Keith worked alongside Larry and gained valuable experience from the soil expert in our area.

Today, Keith leads the company with the same passion, dedication, and values, and Larry still spends time providing senior review of reports and his unique expert advice when the situation demands. LMJ continues to grow and expand our services, and we are proud to be a trusted partner, working with great people, on important projects in our community.
